Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Avery Eye Care Center a proud provider of vision care products and services in St. Johns.

Our staff at Avery Eye Care Center is well trained and focused on making your patient experience a personal one. All members of our staff attend continuing education classes throughout the year in areas of spectacle lenses, contact lenses and eyewear design. The office culture at Avery Eye Care Center is one of excellence in patient care and personalized service. We believe and practice doing the right thing to make your experience a good one with long lasting happiness, eye health and optimal vision.

Doctors


Dr. Edward Peters

Dr. Edward Peters received his Doctorate of Optometry in 1986 from Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University.  His professional affiliations include the American Optometric Association and Michigan Optometric Association.

He has been the president and owner of Avery Eye Care Center in St. Johns since 1988.  Dr. Peters and his wife Sara live in St. Johns with their two sons, Eddie and Zach.  He is a member of Dewitt Redeemer United Methodist Church and the St. Johns Rotary Club.  Dr. Peters enjoys playing golf, exercising and spending time with this family.  His sons are currently enrolled at Michigan College of Optometry.

Dr. Peter’s specialties include dry eye disease, co-management of Lasik, specialty intra-ocular implants for cataract surgery, and contact lenses.  His passion does not stop with just taking care of eyes but to help his patients improve their quality of life by sharing his knowledge of nutrition, exercise and living life to the fullest.


Dr. Thu To

Dr. Thu To is a graduate of the University of Minnesota. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. She moved to the East Lansing area in 2010 with her husband when he joined Michigan State University as a Professor of Physics. Dr. To had previously been practicing in the Minneapolis and the Chicagoland area and has extensive knowledge in primary care and contact lenses. She is a past member of the American Optometric Association and the Contact Lens Society. Dr. To is multilingual with proficiency in both Vietnamese and Spanish. She has two young sons, Gavin and Bryce and keeps busy running after them. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, trying new cuisines and traveling.


Dr. Mark White

Dr. Mark White grew up in Detroit, attended Michigan State University and received his doctorate of Optometry in 1976 from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois.

His professional affiliations include the American Optometric Association and Michigan Optometric Association.

Dr. White has held the positions of Manager of Professional Services for Bausch & Lomb Canada and Chief of Optometry Services, 927th Aerospace Medicine Flight at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan.  Dr. White retired as a Lt. Colonel after 21 years of service in the Air Force Reserve.

Dr. White has advanced training and extensive experience in diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, laser vision correction and specialty contact lenses.

Locally, Dr. White and his wife Laura live in Dewitt.  He is active in the Dewitt Redeemer United Methodist Church and past president of the St. Johns Lions Club.  Currently, he is a director of the Water Wonderland Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society.  In his spare time, Dr. White enjoys restoring antique wooden boats and is currently restoring a 1946 Chris Craft.


Administration


Jenny Morrison

Jenny has been working in the eye industry for 10 years. She graduated from Lansing Community College with an associate’s degree and went on to Ross Medical Education Center to become a Medical Assistant. She has been employed with Avery Eye Care Center since 2007. Outside of work, you can find her hanging out with her husband Will and two children Nayeli and Chayten. Her children are her greatest achievement and there is nothing in this world better than being their mom. She loves this job because it’s such an amazing feeling helping patients out and being able to have conversations with patients and understand what their needs are when it comes to their vision and better yet being that person who can help answer their questions.


Ruth Brya

Ruth has been with Avery since 2005. She Graduated from Davenport University in business administration.

She likes to spend time with family, read and watch movies. Ruth has two children all grown up and two grandchildren still growing. She likes her job because she gets to interact with people and be of service to them and she always has something to do.


Lou Ann Roberts

Lou Ann Has been with Avery since 1999 and truly loves the day to day challenges. It gives her much pleasure to work with Doctors and staff that have a passion for helping people and enjoy doing their jobs. Lou Ann and her husband live in St Johns and have 2 married daughters, 2 grand daughters and 1 great grandson. She enjoys working in the yard, spending time with family, friends and enjoying all the blessings that she has been given.


Heather Quinn

Heather has been with Avery since 2016. As a graduate of Ovid- Elsie and Blue Heron Academy, she enjoys exercising and shopping and spending time with her husband and dog.


Mary Prowant

Mary has worked at Avery for 23 years and has worked in the Optical industry for 26 years. She attended Lansing Community College. In her free time she enjoy s spending time with her kids and grandkids. She also likes to spend time at Houghton Lake and go to garage sales and antique stores.


Lisa Hollis

Lisa has worked at Avery since 2015.


Optical


Ruthie Gillespie

Ruthie has worked at Avery since 2000 and is the Contact Lens Coordinator. She is passionate about helping patients and forming a bond with those patients over the years. She is married and has two children. In her spare time you will find her exercising and spending time with family and friends.


Randy Rey

Randy attended LCC for vocational training and has been at Avery and in the industry since 2014. He is married to Jill and they have two adult children Lindsey (Bennie) and Stephen (Kayleigh) and two granddaughters Amelia and Lydia. Randy likes his job because no two days are the same, the work is very challenging and he enjoys speaking with people.


Kate Maynard

Kate has been an optician at Avery since 2016. She graduated in 2014 with a Bachelors in Healthcare Administration from Western Michigan University. The best part about her job is connecting with our patients and helping them select a pair of glasses that makes them feel great about themselves! She recently purchased a fixer-upper, and lives there with her dog, Pippa. In her spare time she enjoy s spending time at her family farm and showing her horse, Sophie.


Katie Goff

Kate attended MSU (Psychology) after high school…GO GREEN! She has been an optician for almost 15 years, and has been ABO certified for about 8 years. She enjoys being an optician because it combines science and art, and loves helping people feel good about themselves! Kate is a proud wife and mother and receives great joy out of watching her children excel at what they love to do. Kate and her husband have a mutual obsession for music, so they spend their “free” time going to concerts. They are also die-hard Detroit Tiger fans and enjoy watching or listening to the games.


Bekah Shannon

Rebekah grew up in Indianapolis, IN and attended technical school to be an EMT. After a year in the field, she married, moved to MI, and had her first baby Natalie! In her free time, you’ll find her and her husband riding bikes on the trails or traveling to some of the coolest places on a whim. She has been at Avery since 2015 and loves the family friendly atmosphere and getting to know people from all over town and the state!


Trevor Kramer

Trevor attended Albion college for athletic training and Davenport for Nursing, He started at Avery in 2017 and has been an optician for 4 years. Dr. White and Dr. Peters set him up with his first set of glasses in elementary school. From that point, he learned how to fix broken glasses because he was constantly in the office as a kid getting his glasses repaired. He enjoys being an optician because he can help patients see better, which made a huge impact on him when he was young and wants to pass that on.


Megan Montes

Megan graduated from Northwood University with a Bachelors in Business Administration and started working at Avery February 2016. Prior to working at Avery she was in the banking industry for 8 years. Megan is married and has 1 daughter. She loves reading, being outside, and staying active. She feels working at Avery is like working with a big family, and from day one she has felt very welcomed.


Technicians


Leanne Toribio

Leanne has worked at Avery since 2007. She is married and has 2 children.  In her free time she enjoys traveling, reading, baking, gardening, and exercising.


Marissa Deitrich

Marissa has been at Avery since December of 2015 and is a Certified Medical Assistant. She has a 4 year old daughter named Peyton. She loves spending time with family and likes working at Avery due to the fact she is able to interact with patients each and every day 🙂


Masey Duttenhaver

Masey has been at Avery since 2015. Masey likes to hunt, fish , and sew in her spare time.


 


Cassie Hebekeuser

Cassie started at Avery in 2017 and is attending Lansing Community College for an online program to complete a business degree. She is a Certified Paraoptometric and has worked in the eye care industry for four years. She is married and has one daughter. She likes being outdoors and spending time with friends and family. She loves being able to help patients everyday with their vision and eye health.
