Doctors
Dr. Edward Peters
Dr. Edward Peters received his Doctorate of Optometry in 1986 from Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. His professional affiliations include the American Optometric Association and Michigan Optometric Association.
He has been the president and a partner at Avery Eye Care Center in St. Johns since 1988. Dr. Peters and his wife Sara live in St. Johns with their two sons, Eddie and Zach. He is a member of Dewitt Redeemer United Methodist Church and the St. Johns Rotary Club. Dr. Peters enjoys playing golf, exercising and spending time with his family. His son, Zach, is currently enrolled at Michigan College of Optometry and his son, Eddie, is a part of Avery Eye Care Center. The Peters family received the Legacy Award from Ferris State University.
Dr. Peter’s specialties include dry eye disease, co-management of Lasik, specialty intra-ocular implants for cataract surgery, and contact lenses. His passion does not stop with just taking care of eyes but to help his patients improve their quality of life by sharing his knowledge of nutrition, exercise and living life to the fullest. He is committed to supporting and transforming the lives of his patients.
Dr. Thu To
Dr. Thu To is a graduate of the University of Minnesota. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. To had previously been practicing in the Minneapolis and Chicagoland area and has extensive knowledge in primary care and contact lenses. She is a past member of the American Optometric Association and the Contact Lens Society. Additionally, Dr. To is multilingual with proficiency in both Vietnamese and Spanish.
In 2010, she moved to the East Lansing area with her husband when he joined Michigan State University as a Professor of Physics. She has two young sons, Gavin and Bryce, and enjoys reading, cooking, and traveling. You may also catch her at a Spartan football or hockey game.
Dr. To specializes in contact lenses, co-management of cataract and Lasik surgery as well as managing dry eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetes.
Dr. Roxanne Rottiers
Dr. Roxanne Rottiers graduated from Michigan College of Optometry in 2015. She has been on multiple mission trips through VOSH to help those in need of eye care. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Michigan Optometric Association, and the Scleral Lens Contact Lens Society.
She is certified in fitting the Paragon CRT lens to slow down the progression of myopia in kids and young adults. She also has an interest in scleral lenses that help correct vision and reduce ocular discomfort in those with corneal irregularities and in the treatment of dry eye disease.
Dr. Rottiers and her husband Kyle grew up in St. Johns and are now living in Grand Ledge with their 9-month-old son, Elliott, and their dogs, Aly & Diesel. Dr. Rottiers enjoys spending time with family, reading, traveling, playing at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, and visiting Disneyworld.
She specializes in specialty contact lenses, dry eye disease, co-management of Lasik and cataract surgery, and the management of diabetes, macular degeneration, and glaucoma.
Dr. Eddie Peters
Dr. Eddie Peters is a graduate of Ferris State University and received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry in May of 2018. He is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Michigan Optometric Association (MOA). Dr. Peters has trained using some of the most recent advancements in the field, including new imaging technology and leading edge specialty contact lenses. Completing training in Pediatric Optometry, Dr. Peters is very comfortable with patients presenting for their very first eye exam, as well as with our longstanding patients.
Dr. Eddie Peters enjoys golfing, fishing, and watching any sporting event involving our Detroit teams (GO Tigers, Wings, Pistons, & Lions!). He enjoys talking optometry with his dad and brother and has been a wealth of growing knowledge over the past 12 years here while working at Avery Eye Care Center. He is excited to join such a successful, amazing team and is ready to keep propelling Avery in the fantastic direction it is already headed.
Administration
Jenny Morrison
Jenny has been working at Avery Eye Care Center since 2007. She graduated from Lansing Community College with an associate’s degree and went on to Ross Medical Education Center to become a Medical Assistant. Outside of work, you can find her hanging out with her husband Will and two children Nayeli and Chayten. Her children are her greatest achievement and there is nothing in this world better than being their mom. She loves this job because there is always something new and exciting to learn and loves being able to help patients out.
Ruth Brya
Ruth has been with Avery since 2005. She Graduated from Davenport University in business administration.
She likes to spend time with family, read and watch movies. Ruth has two children all grown up and two grandchildren still growing. She likes her job because she gets to interact with people and be of service to them and she always has something to do.
Lou Ann Roberts
Lou Ann Has been with Avery since 1999 and truly loves the day to day challenges. It gives her much pleasure to work with Doctors and staff that have a passion for helping people and enjoy doing their jobs. Lou Ann and her husband live in St Johns and have 2 married daughters, 2 granddaughters and 1 great-grandson. She enjoys working in the yard, spending time with family, friends and enjoying all the blessings that she has been given.
Heather Quinn
Heather has been with Avery since 2016. As a graduate of Ovid- Elsie and Blue Heron Academy, she enjoys exercising and shopping and spending time with her husband and dog.
Mary Prowant
Mary has worked at Avery for 26 years and has worked in the Optical industry for 32 years. She attended Lansing Community College. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her kids and grandkids. She also likes to spend time at Houghton Lake and go to garage sales and antique stores.
Lisa Hollis
Lisa has worked at Avery since 2015.
Beth Tkaczyk
Beth has worked at Avery since May of 2019. Before coming to Avery Eye Care I trained race horses and worked at Sundance Buick GMC for 8 years. In my free time I like to spend time with my horses, family and friends. I really like making connection with the patients while I try to help them find the right pair of glasses and making sure they are happy with the end result.
Ava Young
Ava has worked at Avery since August of 2020. She is a co-op student from Ithaca High School and has a strong interest in pursuing post-secondary education aimed at receiving a Doctorate of Optometry. In her free time Ava enjoys spending time with her hobby cows and horse. She enjoys camping along Lake Michigan in the summer with her family and dogs as well.
Optical
Ruthie Gillespie
Ruthie has worked at Avery since 2000 and is the Contact Lens Coordinator. She is passionate about helping patients and forming a bond with those patients over the years. She is happily married and has two sons. In her spare time, you will find her exercising and spending time with family and friends.
Briana Green
Briana has been part of the optical department since June of 2019. She working towards a degree in Forestry and hopes to obtain her Masters, so she can join the DNR. She loves burgers, Star Wars and her Corgi pup. Working at Avery Eye Care has been a great experience for her, as she enjoys meeting new patients everyday.
Rebecca Miller
Rebecca joined Avery in July 2020. She grew up in Beaverton, MI and received a Bachelor of Arts from Saginaw Valley State University in 2012. She lived in Gladwin County until recently moving to St Johns early in 2020.
In her free time, you’ll find her with her husband and daughter, spending time with their extended family, camping, boating, crafting or spending time outside.
Chanelle Hale
Chanelle grew up in Stockbridge, Michigan. She went to a Technical College for the Medical Assistant program where she moved out west for a short period of time before coming back to Michigan and working at Avery.
In her spare time, she enjoys kayaking, reading, swimming, crafting, being in the sun, grooming dogs, and doing some cardio drumming.
Chanelle likes her job because its always growing and changing and Avery is her second family!
Technicians
Leanne Toribio
Leanne has worked at Avery since 2007. She is married and has 2 children. In her free time she enjoys traveling, reading, baking, gardening, and exercising.
Marissa Deitrich
Marissa has been at Avery since December of 2015 and is a Certified Medical Assistant. She has a 4-year-old daughter named Peyton. She loves spending time with family and likes working at Avery due to the fact she is able to interact with patients each and every day 🙂
Lynsi Mrazek
Lynsi has been at Avery since June 2018. She graduated from St. Johns High School in 2012. She loves to spend time with her family, boyfriend, dogs, and friends in her free time. She also likes to travel, swim and read. Lynsi has a 1 year old daughter named Kayla who she adores, loves playing with and teaching her new words and sounds everyday!
Andrea Thurston
Andrea served in the US Air Force before working in the ophthalmology field for 22 years. She has been married to her husband Forrest for 11 years and they have a 10 year old son Douglas.
In her spare time she loves calligraphy. She also loves to bake and host get together’s. Her biggest joy is spending time with family and friends.
Andrea loves her job because she loves working with people, there is always something new to learn, and there is constant advancements in the field.
